Materials and Methods: This qualitative study, conducted in 2024, used conventional content analysis to explore the experiences of 18 male individuals with disabilities (physical, intellectual, and psychosocial impairments) attending vocational rehabilitation settings in Malayer and Nahavand, Iran. Purposeful sampling was employed. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and a demographic questionnaire. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed using Elo and Kyngäs’ conventional content analysis method. Data management and coding were performed using MAXQDA 2022.
Results: Participants were 18 males with physical, intellectual, sensory, and psychosocial impairments. Data analysis yielded 87 open codes, 21 subcategories, and 8 categories, organized into two main domains: personal factors (physical condition, psychological state, knowledge and competence) and environmental factors (physical sleep environment, social environment, economic environment, occupational environment, daily life and family).
Conclusion: This qualitative study revealed that sleep quality among individuals with disabilities in vocational rehabilitation settings is shaped by a complex interplay of personal and environmental factors. Pain, emotional distress, inadequate sleep facilities, and chronic financial strain negatively affect sleep, while vocational competence, supportive social interactions, and structured daily routines enhance it. These findings underscore the need for multilevel interventions, including environmental modifications, staff communication training, economic support, and integrated sleep health services to improve sleep and overall well-being in this population.
</abstract>
